The global micro-clinic economy

Screening booths, cabin clinics and clinics on wheels are spreading across factories, campuses and districts in seven countries - bought by employers and administrations rather than hospitals. What that adds up to.

Frequently asked

What is preventive healthcare and why is it important?

Preventive healthcare means detecting health risks early - through regular screening of parameters like blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI and heart health - before they become serious illnesses. Early detection dramatically reduces treatment costs and improves outcomes. India’s preventive health sector is one of the fastest-growing parts of healthcare precisely because catching disease early is far cheaper than treating it late.

How often should I get a health checkup?

As a general guideline: a basic screening every 6-12 months for healthy adults under 40, and every 6 months after 40 or if you have risk factors like a family history of diabetes, hypertension or heart disease. Self-service kiosks make frequent monitoring easy and affordable - you can track key vitals monthly at minimal cost.

Health ATM vs pathology lab test - what’s the difference?

A Health ATM gives instant, affordable screening of vitals and rapid-test parameters, ideal for regular monitoring and early risk detection. A pathology lab performs comprehensive, accredited diagnostic analysis (full blood panels, cultures, advanced markers) needed for confirmed diagnosis. They complement each other: screen frequently at a kiosk, confirm abnormal findings at a lab.

What is an ABHA card and what are its benefits?

ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) is a free 14-digit health ID under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. It links all your medical records - prescriptions, lab reports, screenings - in one secure digital account accessible across hospitals and apps anywhere in India. Note: ABHA is a health record ID; it is different from the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY card, which provides insurance coverage.

What is eSanjeevani and is an online consultation valid?

eSanjeevani is the Government of India’s free national telemedicine service, which has delivered hundreds of millions of consultations. Online consultations by registered medical practitioners are legally recognised under India’s Telemedicine Practice Guidelines (2020), and e-prescriptions issued through valid teleconsultations are accepted at pharmacies.

Is telemedicine legal in India?

Yes. The Telemedicine Practice Guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and the Medical Council in March 2020 give registered doctors a clear legal framework for consulting patients remotely via video, audio or text - including issuing prescriptions for permitted medicines.

Health Kiosk vs Mobile Medical Unit - which is right for my programme?

Choose a Health Kiosk when you have a fixed high-footfall location (hospital OPD, pharmacy, office, PHC) and want 24x7 self-service screening at the lowest cost per test. Choose a Mobile Medical Unit when your population is dispersed across villages with no facility nearby - an MMU brings a doctor, staff and diagnostics to their doorstep on a fixed route. Many successful public-health programmes combine both in a hub-and-spoke model.

Which health parameters should I track regularly?

The essentials: blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, BMI and body composition, pulse and SpO2, and lipid profile periodically. After 40, add regular ECG screening. Tracking trends over time matters more than any single reading - which is why digital reports linked to your health record are so valuable.

What is the future of self-service healthcare in India?

Expect rapid growth: the Indian health kiosk market is projected to grow at 15-18% annually, driven by digital health infrastructure (ABDM), rising lifestyle disease burden, and demand for affordable screening. AI-powered kiosks that flag risks, generate smart reports and hand context to a teledoctor are becoming standard - making the kiosk a true front door to the healthcare system.
