Corporate Health Claims Are Rising. The Annual Checkup Is Now the Law for Workers Over 40.

Quick answer: Under India's new labour codes, in force since 21 November 2025, employers must provide a free annual health checkup to workers aged 40 and above. At the same time, medical costs are projected to rise 11.5% in 2026. An on-site health kiosk lets employers meet the checkup requirement in minutes per employee, during working hours, while catching the lifestyle risks that drive expensive claims.

What do the new labour codes say about health checkups?

The four labour codes took effect on 21 November 2025 and require employers to ensure annual health checkups for all workers above 40 (The Tribune). The final central rules were notified on 8 May 2026 (KPMG), and the Labour Ministry launched a nationwide annual checkup drive through ESIC hospitals on 7 May 2026 (Morung Express / IANS).

For many companies, especially factories with large shift-based teams, organising hundreds of checkups a year without losing work hours is a real operational challenge.

Why are corporate health costs rising so fast?

  • Medical inflation: Employee medical plan costs in India are projected to rise 11.5% in 2026, against a 9.8% global average (Aon, Dec 2025).
  • Younger employees falling ill earlier: Desk work, long hours, poor sleep and irregular meals are turning into real medical bills (The Pioneer, Aug 2026).
  • Hidden lifestyle risk: Over 70% of Indian employees carry at least one lifestyle-related health risk, yet only 20% of employers offer routine screenings (Onsurity, citing MediBuddy).
  • Employee stress: Nine in ten corporate employees report significant stress over unexpected medical expenses (Tata AIG survey via Omnicuris).

Why does an annual checkup cut claims?

High blood pressure, raised sugar and heart risk rarely cause symptoms at first. They show up in a routine checkup months or years before they show up as a hospital claim. Catching them early means:

  • Treatment starts while it is cheap and simple.
  • Fewer emergency admissions and sick days.
  • Better data for HR and insurers to plan wellness programmes.

How Clinics On Cloud supports employers

The Clinics On Cloud Health ATM runs a 65+ parameter checkup, including blood pressure, sugar, HbA1c, ECG, SpO₂ and BMI, in about 10 minutes. Employees get instant reports and can speak to a doctor by video (telemedicine). HR and medical teams get aggregated insights and can integrate data with existing systems (Data and Analytics).

For head offices, the Health Lounge turns screening into a calm, private wellness space. See how a Health Kiosk and Health Lounge went live at Reliance's corporate headquarters. Organisations including Tata Power, Godrej, HP and Bajaj Allianz already use Clinics On Cloud (corporate deployments).

A 4-step plan for HR leaders

  • List employees aged 40+ and those in hazardous roles.
  • Place a Health ATM where every shift can reach it.
  • Set a simple rule: screen at least once a year, and every quarter for anyone flagged.
  • Link high-risk results to doctor follow-up and your insurer's wellness benefits.
